In psychology, there’s a concept known as the self-fulfilling prophecy. Businessdictionary.com provides one of the best definitions for this concept:

Any positive or negative expectation about circumstances, events, or people that may affect a person’s behavior toward them in a manner that causes those expectations to be fulfilled.

In more basics, this concept manifests itself when your expectation of the outcome of a particulary situation influences your behavior in such a way as to bring about that expected outcome. What’s the problem with this general situation? It’s that the expected outcome not necessarily wouldn’t have, but might not have, and definitely would’ve had a lesser opportunity of occuring, if the person’s behavior hadn’t been influenced the expectation.
